Individual coaching success factors
Any individual coaching is tailor-made and must leave room for what emerges during the coaching session. There is no miracle recipe. However, experience has taught me that some conditions are essential to the success of coaching:
- Checking the chemistry fit and the trust between the coach and his client. This is the main purpose of the acquaintance meeting.
- Setting clear objectives to the overall coaching, with associated indicators to measure their achievement.
- Whenever possible, aligning mutual expectations of the coachee, his/her manager and the organization during a triade kick-off meeting. This does not apply in some instances (e.g. CEO and private coaching sessions).
- Working regularly to anchor what has been learned. A coaching usually includes 8 to 10 sessions over six to eight months.
- Building on strengths thanks to better self-knowledge. I often use psychometric tests I am certified for that purpose.
- Encouraging clients to accept questions, feedback and confrontation; to be ready to broaden their reference framework and perspectives; to leave their comfort zone and explore obstacles, blind spots and repetitive scenarios.
- Taking stock of progress at the end of the coaching to identify achievements and next steps.
Your coaching allowed me to take a different look at my abilities and my professional ecosystem, to decipher what is at stake in daily exchanges, whether sources of tension or satisfaction. In this introspective exercise you gave me pragmatic keys to broaden my horizon and overcome prejudices that are detrimental to performance.
